Centaurea cyanus

My quest for edible flowers has brought me to the cornflower, known in Brazil as centaurea. This is a flower with a huge role in the European collective imagination and symbolism, as illustrated by the paintings below. One of its many curious names is Bachelor's button. As far as I know, that name dates back to Victorian times, when people used flowers as their msn. Centaurea used to mean "gallantry", i.e., "'n love w/someone". Mine have already germinated, but of course there are no blossoms yet. Hardly can wait to discover the taste of blue.
